The person behind it

I’m Tupi Cabrera. I live in Ventura, California, and I’ve spent most of my life on a longboard.

Some of that time was competitive. Most of it has been the kind of surfing you do for its own sake — trim, glide, long walks up the deck, and reading the wave like a piece of writing.

Why the podcast started

In December 2018 I sat down with the first guest and started what became The Longboardarian Podcast. The pitch was simple: nobody was having long, unhurried conversations with the people who built modern longboarding. Steve Walden. Bill Hamilton. Paul Strauch. The generation whose choices in the 60s and 70s made the longboard revival of the 90s possible, and whose voices deserve to be captured before they aren’t around to capture.

Every conversation is a piece of surf history I couldn’t have found anywhere else.

Seven years later, the archive is real. Taylor Jensen has been on. Devon Howard. Tory Gilkerson. Kanoa Dahlin. Michel Junod, Dennis Ryder, and dozens of others.

What this site is

For years the podcast lived on Spotify and Apple, the shop was “coming soon,” and the whole thing added up to less than the sum of its parts. This site changes that. One home for the podcast, the videos, the merch, the lessons, and the community.

The podcast doesn’t change. It still lives on your favorite app. This site is what’s built around it — a place to actually support the work, buy the tee, and hear the bonus episodes we couldn’t quite fit on the main feed.

Come along

If you’ve been listening since 2018, thank you. If you’re finding this now, welcome. There’s more coming — and I’d love to have you along.
